China sold 300 000 electric cars last year
How did Elon Musk come to give his electric car the name Tesla?
Answer: Tesla and Edison were rivals, but not sworn enemies as some believe.  In most circles Edison was the better known of the two, Elon Musk didn’t call his car Edison, so Musk  might have had more  admiration for Tesla, naming his car after him.

A brief account of Edison and Tesla  from Wikipedia ….these two contributed enormously to numbers in the field of electricity.

Early in Tesla’s  career, he worked for Edison, designing direct current generators, but famously quit to pursue his own project, the alternating current induction motor. Sure, they were on different sides of the so-called “Current Wars,” with Edison pushing for direct current and Tesla for alternating current. But Carlson considers them the Steve Jobs and Bill Gates of their time: one the brilliant marketer and businessman and the other a visionary and “tech guy.”(Tesla)

On a rare occasion, Edison attended a conference where Tesla was speaking. Edison, hard of hearing and not wanting to be spotted, slipped into the back of the auditorium to listen to the lecture. But Tesla spotted Edison in the crowd, called attention to him and led the audience in giving him a standing ovation.

Elon Musk’s with his Tesla electric car could  become what Henry Ford was to the internal combustion engine.  Henry Ford’s cars with internal combustion engines  out performed steam and electric vehicles, this  a century ago. Ford set the stage for the famous internal combustion engine to dominate worldwide. Musk  might do the same with his electric cars. ……we are at the beginning of a new historic development. The Tesla might have set the standard, from here it is full steam (electric) ahead.

Tesla specs:

0-100 km/hr in 3.1 seconds
It does 430 km on battery charge.
